Pois é... a pedra ainda está lá... e pra falar sobre a existência de alguém ou alguma coisa, usamos o verbo "to there be" que traduzimos como "ter", "haver" ou "existir".
Podemos dizer que tem 1 objeto ou 1 pessoa. (Singular):
There is a book on the table. (Há um livro sobre a mesa)
There is a car in the garage. (Tem um carro na garagem)
Ou podemos dizer que tem mais de 1. (Plural):
There are books on the table. (Tem livros sobre a mesa)
There are 2 cars in the garage. (Há 2 carros na garagem)
Para negar a existência de algo ou alguém, é só adicionar "not" logo após o verbo:There is not a book on the table.
There is not a car in the garage.
There are not books on the table.
There are not 2 cars in the garage.
Em frases interrogativas, inverte-se a ordem:
Is there a book on the table?
Are there 2 cars in the garage?
There is geralmente aparece na sua forma contraída quando falado (There's)
There are não pode ser contraído
